Luke was admitted to the PICU after he ran was struck by a car on his way to the park. He suffered a massive head injury and leg fracture. He was originally told that he would spend the rest of his life confined to a bed. His Child Life Specialist recently visited him at a local pediatric rehabilitation hospital and miraculously, he has started eating and talking. She took care of Luke during his tenuous stay, and was thrilled to witness him moving his motorized wheelchair – racing around the recreation room, playing Wii, moving both extremities, and feeding himself. It has been utterly uplifting and joyful to watch this one motionless child – one who could barely life his head off his pillow – transform into a happy, smiling, wonderful child who never complains. He has poured all of his energy into learning to walk and talk again. His brave demeanor and determination make him a true HERO!
