Facility: Texas Scottish Rite
Keyber is 11 years old and has been a patient at Texas Scottish Rite for Children since he was an infant. Keyber has spina bifida. His family moved from Venezuela after Keyber was born to find medical care for him and in hopes of providing him with a better life in the United States. He lives with his parents and younger twin brothers.
Spina bifida is a chronic, complex condition, but even at his young age, Keyber has shown great initiative to be independent. He is wheelchair mobile and prefers to push himself than have assistance. Most remarkably, he tries to meet his own self care needs without relying on help from others. Keyber is very shy, but he has recently taken a big step in registering for his first spina bifida camp. His mother shared that he worked hard in school this past year and made good grades.
Keyber is a quiet, well-behaved child who works diligently to be independent and successful at his goals. Being selected Hero of the Month would be a wonderful reward for him.
