Jeremy is a 13-year-old young man who has had a very traumatic year. Months ago, he was involved in a motor vehicle accident where he was ejected form the vehicle. He sustained a severe head injury and was in critical condition for several weeks. He required mechanical ventilation for multiple weeks and was transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility five hours from his home. He eventually returned home to begin an outpatient rehab program, working towards walking and gaining independence every week. In the beginning, Jeremy was unable to sit without support. He used a wheelchair for all movement and required assistance for all transfers. Now, he is able to transfer in and out with any help. In fact, Jeremy even walked 500 feet on the treadmill recently with minimal assistance for balance. He works very hard during therapy sessions and is making great progress. He is motivated to succeed and hopes to walk independently one day.
