Staying in a domestic violence shelter can be a difficult adjustment for any kid; it can be downright uncomfortable for a teenage boy. Gregory has maintained his pride and dignity throughout his stay, both at the shelter and within the community. He has been invited to join gangs and been mocked by his peers as a result of his decision (to not join), but his inner strength has kept him from losing his sense of self.
Though Gregory witnessed his father abuse his mother on several occasions, he has never used a harsh or even impolite tone with any of the women or children at the shelter, including his mother. He worries about and cares for her, as much as she does for him. Gregory also struggles with both diabetes and depression, but also strives to see through the hard times in hope of the good ones ahead. Gregory is truly a gentleman with a compassionate soul.
