Conor, a 13-year-old boy, developed encephalitis almost 5 years ago. As a result, he suffered a traumatic brain injury. He was also diagnosed with global aphasia, verbal apraxia, and difficulty with emotional regulation. Since his illness, Conor has received intensive speech therapy to assist him in relearning to communicate. Because of Conor’s drive to get himself better, he has made absolutely amazing progress. For months, Conor was non-verbal, unable to communicate with the exception of gestures and an augmentative communication device. Because of his hard work, he is now able to verbally carry on long conversations with others.
