Tanicha is a fifteen-year old who has been diagnosed with sarcoidosis that has affected both her kidneys and liver. She has been hospitalized twice this year due to complications and it has been difficult getting her disease under control. She takes multiple medications to manage her illness, including frequent infusions. This has become particularly distressing as getting IV access for her has become more challenging. She will now undergo a port placement to help with this. During this year of multiple appointments, tests, biopsies, etc., Tanicha has attended school as often as possible, maintained her workload and continues to be a good student. She is trying to understand her disease and manage it. She has even had to help others understand the changes that have occurred in her body that are visible to them. It has been a difficult journey, but she continues to persevere and maintain a hopeful attitude.
