Sloan is a 13-year old who was admitted to the hospital after having symptoms of muscle weakness and paralysis for several weeks. As a result, she was no longer able to control her breathing and was eventually intubated; something that is rarely done. This caused some frustration, as she was unable to communicate freely. Sloan kept a positive attitude during her hospital stay despite enduring several hours of Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy on a daily basis. She did everything possible to overcome her diagnosis – Guillan Barre Syndrome. In the future, Sloan will have to continue therapies at home and adjust to the addition of a feeding tube. From the beginning, her courage has been an inspiration to other patients and hospital staff members.
