In September of 2003, Mia was diagnosed with a type of blood cancer known as lymphoblastic lymphoma. Since that time, she has undergone aggressive chemotherapy treatments and has endured frequent stays in the hospital. In addition, Mia has a condition known as Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome, a genetic multi-system disorder that causes cardiac, kidney and respiratory problems.
While the nature of her various health anomalies prevent Mia from doing many of the same things as other kids her age, there is one thing she can do. Mia is having a blast riding her brand new specially designed mobility bike!
