Jaclyn, born a 24 week preemie, has Cerebral Palsy and sustained paralysis of the vocal cord after being incubated multiple times during the first few weeks of her life. She has overcome feeding and swallowing issues and pre-school test scores reveal her comparable to those of a 4 ½ -year old. This is amazing since she started walking at 2 ½ -years and just began talking 6-7 months ago. One can hardly tell that she uses braces to help her walk as she runs down the hallway! Physical and speech therapy exercises help strengthen weaknesses in her arms and legs, improve motor skills, and strengthen vocal skills as she learns to form clear sentences. Her mom is also very involved in her care and therapy. Jaclyn will face future surgeries on her hips as she grows, but right now, she is full of giggles and smiles – determined to enjoy each moment in life!
