When he was just seven, Eric was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. DMD is a progressive form of muscular dystrophy and is characterized by rapid deterioration of the muscles. The disease begins by affecting primarily the legs and pelvis and later affects the entire body. Children with Duchenne are typically wheelchair bound by their teens. Eric has experienced increasing difficulty with walking and climbing stairs and uses a power chair for distance. He also engages in hippotherapy, which utilizes horseback riding to help with physical therapy.
This special young boy is an absolute whiz when it comes to computers and video games. So it was no surprise when Eric decided that what he wanted most for his wish was a shopping spree at his favorite store, GameStop! Eric was super excited to bring home a Wii, a PS2 and countless games and accessories to go with his brand new game systems. What a day!
