At 9-weeks-old, Marisa was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a condition in which the bile duct between the liver and small intestine is absent. At 21 months, Marisa suffered through a liver transplant. After the surgery, her body rejected the new liver twice and her doctors put her on a very strict medication regimen to get her body to accept the liver. During this time she also suffered an intestinal bleed for which she had to have a blood transfusion. Since then, Marisa’s been on medications every day as well as having to deal with frequent doctor visits; an awful lot to deal with for a child of only 7.
Marisa wished to experience the magic of the Florida theme parks and just had her wish granted!
She and her family visited Sea World, Universal Studios, the Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. She even got to spend her 7th birthday at Disney World!
While at the parks, Marisa had a blast riding all of the rides and meeting her favorite characters, including the Disney Princesses and Mickey Mouse. She also enjoyed the fireworks and the shows. According to Marisa, “The fireworks at Magic Kingdom were fantastic. I loved to see Tinkerbell fly!!!”
When it was time to come home, it all felt like it had been some sort of magical dream.
