Child living with life-threatening illness gets wish granted by Kids Wish Network

El Paso, Texas – A young boy living with a life-threatening illness was granted a wish by national children’s charity Kids Wish Network.

Jonathan is a happy 11-year-old boy who loves watching soccer. At age 7, he was diagnosed with having intractable seizures. These are very severe seizures that can’t be controlled by medication. Jonathan can have up to 150 seizures each day, although he remains conscious for the duration of every seizure. He has had various surgeries to help control this illness, but it has not been very successful. One of his most recent hospital stays was the result of a 48-hour-long seizure which left him in a coma. Jonathan came out of his coma, but continues to have seizures.

Jonathan’s mother, Edna, decided she wanted to refer her son to Kids Wish Network to have a wish granted. After filling out some paperwork, Jonathan was soon telling Kids Wish Network Wish Coordinator Jennifer that his one wish was to visit the theme parks in Florida.

“He wanted to visit Disney World,” Edna said. “He just loves rides.”

With help from Kids Wish Network Wish Funding Specialist Doris, Jennifer set out to grant Jonathan’s wish. Jennifer made arrangements for round-trip airfare, theme park tickets, a hotel stay at the beautiful Royal Plaza Hotel, various dinners including the Pirates Dinner Theatre, and other amazing attractions. Jennifer also provided Jonathan and his family with spending money to take care of extra expenses.

“Everything was perfect. Jonathan was really happy,” Edna said. “One thing he really liked was the Pirates dinner. He was so happy he was crying.”

Edna said Jonathan also really enjoyed watching some of the shows at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

“One of his favorite things was the Lion King show that we got to watch,” she said.

As his mother, Edna said the best part of this experience for her was seeing how happy he was.

“He was so happy he was dancing,” she said. “His wish came true.”

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Jonathan’s wish extra special: American Legion Post 491, Sunrise Baptist Church, Federal Officer’s Association of Texas, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 82, Royal Plaza, The California Pizza Kitchen, Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater, Garden Grove Restaurant, Dollar Thrifty Automotive, and Wonder Works
