Anthony is an intelligent 5-year-old boy who was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia just shortly after being born. This disease causes the bile ducts of the liver to shut down. At just three months of age, Anthony underwent a liver transplant, as he was fortunate enough to have his father as a donor. Although the surgery was a success, Anthony still has to take many medications – including anti-rejection pills – and attend doctors appointments every three months. His immune system is also extremely suppressed.
Anthony’s one wish was to build a time machine and travel to the past to see the dinosaurs. But since that isn’t possible, he decided to go to the Smithsonian Institute to see the dinosaur bones on display. Anthony’s mom said he was so excited and that when he saw the bones, “his eyes looked like they were going to come out of his head!” Laurie said that the trip was a dream come true and that they had an amazing time.
