As her uncle watched Amber cross the street to go to school, she was hit and run over by a SUV. She was airlifted to a children’s hospital and then transferred to California Hospital Medical Center. She sustained a complete pelvic ring fracture, a left ankle fracture and a brain contusion. She spent almost 2 weeks in the hospital. During her stay, Amber endured several procedures and surgeries and experienced a tremendous amount of pain. She learned to sit up in bed and eventually transfer herself to wheelchair, and learned to do things for herself again. Amber was always honest and an advocate for her needs. She expressed appreciation for the staff’s help and support. Her inspiring strength and determination to help in her recovery makes her a real Hero!
