Kirksville, Mo. – Ryan, who is 10-years-old and suffers from Muscular Dystrophy, is living proof that wishes do come true. He just had his wish granted for a new Playstation 3 – which plays both Playstation 2 and 3 games – granted through national charity Kids Wish Network.
When Ryan was 4-years-old, he was diagnosed with various life threatening illnesses including Muscular Dystrophy, Endocrine Neplasia type IIB – a hereditary type of cancer and severe asthma. Ryan has had his Thyroid taken out and has blood work done every six months. He is currently able to walk, but is getting weaker, and uses a wheelchair for long distances.
Ryan’s older brother also suffers from MD and had a wish granted through Kids Wish Network. His father, Victor, decided it was a good time to refer Ryan to the charity.
“Ryan has Muscular Dystrophy and I’ve been donating to Kids Wish Network and I talked to someone recently and referred him for a wish,” Victor said.
Before long, Ryan was telling wish coordinator Vanessa that his one wish was to have his very own Playstation 3, just like his older brother.
“His brother bought one and he looks up to his older brother and he decided to get one of his own. I told him to ask for what he wanted and that is what he asked for,” Victor said.
With a little help from wish funding specialist Megan, and some very special sponsors, Vanessa go to work to find the game system of Ryan’s dreams.
“He wanted the Playstation 3 where you can play both games and you people worked around and found one since they don’t make them anymore,” Ryan’s dad said.
Not only did Ryan get a new game system, but he got a huge box filled with games and toys to keep him busy. Vanessa filled the box with games for the Playstation, hand held electronic games and also plenty of puzzles which Ryan loves to put together.
“He sat there and played the games that were sent in the gift box all day,” Victor said. “He loves putting puzzles together and I am going to set up a table where he can do them.”
Victor said that before his wish was delivered to his house, Ryan was very anxious for it to get to him.
“Matter of fact it was kind of rough getting him to school. He kept looking out the door to see if someone was coming to bring his games to him,” Victor said.
Victor said that he is happy to know that his son’s wish came true.
“You made him a happy camper,” he said. “He is a happy boy but you really fulfilled his wish.”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Ryan’s wish extra special: Joshua Deane, Ophthalmology Consultants
