Local boy sent to Disney for his only wish

MADISON HEIGHTS, Va. – A little boy with a serious heart condition has the wish of his life through Kids Wish Network.

After yet another visit to her son Hayden’s cardiologist, Crystal was just looking for some help. For the entire three years of Hayden’s life, he has been struggling with complex cyanotic congenital heart disease, a condition for which he’s suffered multiple strokes and has endured three open heart surgeries with yet another looming over the horizon.

Through all his suffering, Crystal’s little boy kept his bright spirits as high as he could; she just wanted to be able to give something to her son to make him smile, to help him through the upcoming surgery. She had nowhere to turn.

After many nights of searching the Internet, Crystal stumbled on the website for Kids Wish Network, a charity whose goal is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. She decided to give them a call.

In a whirlwind of phone calls, faxes and letters back and forth, it wasn’t long before Hayden was telling Wish Coordinator Jennifer that his one wish was to visit Walt Disney World. With the help of Wish Funding Specialist Donna, Jen made sure that Hayden would have the wish of his life while he visited Orlando by arranging for him to have accommodations at the famous Royal Plaza Hotel, tickets for every theme park he wanted to visit and dinners at the Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater and California Pizza Kitchen!

Once in Orlando, even the ever-changing Florida weather couldn’t keep Hayden and his family from having a good time. They visited Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom and even made a trip to SeaWorld! According to Crystal, Hayden’s favorite part of the whole visit was meeting his hero, Mickey Mouse. In fact, Hayden loved the experience so much that he wanted to take the famous mouse home with him!

Now that he’s back in Virginia, Hayden has asked, “Mommy, when can we go back?”

“It was such a good experience for him,” says Crystal of her son’s wish trip. She even says that Hayden goes around telling everyone that his Wish Coordinator, Jen, is his “angel” for the wish she helped fulfill.

“There are not many places that help kids with heart diseases,” says Crystal. “We’ve had a rough time with Hayden, so we really appreciate the trip. It showed him that there are people out there who want to help.”

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Hayden’s wish extra special: CSE, Inc., Automated Conveyor Systems, Bedford Lions Club, Elks Lodge #321, Moose Lodge #1433, VFW Post 8184, FOP Lodge #34, Fleet Laboratories, Amherst Insurance, Robin Ayers Optometrists, Compassion Partners, WonderWorks, Pirates Dinner Adventure, The Royal Plaza Hotel and California Pizza Kitchen.
