SALEM, Mass. – A little boy with muscular dystrophy gets the computer of his dreams with a little help from Kids Wish Network.
Jakub is a bright fifteen-year-old who is a big fan of George Lucas and the Star Wars movies. His favorite color is blue, and his favorite singer is Rihanna. This tech-savvy young man enjoys playing video games like Halo 1 and 3, and he loves “surfing the ‘net.”
When Jakub was just a baby, he was diagnosed with congenital Muscular Dystrophy, which is a debilitating muscular disease that weakens all his muscle groups. He also suffers from scoliosis (a curvature of the spine), restrictive pulmonary disease (decreased lung capacity) and he has seizures. Jakub never walked, and is now confined to a wheelchair. He has undergone medical procedures including tendon release surgery in his fingers before his first birthday, and hip surgery at age five.
Jakub’s physical therapist at the MGM Revere Clinic had heard of an organization that granted the wishes of kids with life-threatening illnesses and thought that Jakub would really benefit from his dreams being fulfilled. Once referred, it wasn’t long before Jakub was telling Wish Coordinator, Jill, all about his wish to have his very own laptop.
“He really loves it,” said Jakub’s mother, Elzbieta. “Jill did a really good job. It’s great. He’s tested all the games on the computer…he’s been playing all night.” It’s apparent that Jakub’s wish really did come true, and that was just what Jill and everyone else at Kids Wish Network wanted for him.
