CROWN POINT, Ind. – A teenager battling a life-threatening illness enjoys the trip of a lifetime with a cruise from Kids Wish Network.
Gregory is a teenager with a sweet temperament and talkative nature. He’s also a bright student with a penchant for math. Greg loves being a big brother to his four little sisters and really enjoys being in charge. He is also quite a “gamer” with his Playstation 2, and his favorite game is “Star Wars Battlefront 2.”
Gregory has cerebral palsy, which is a neurological affliction that interferes with the messages sent from the brain to the muscles. Greg also has hydrocephalus, also known as “water on the brain.” This condition causes excessive fluid on the brain. Gregory has had a shunt implanted in his head in order to drain the fluid from his brain to his stomach. If this fluid is not drained it could cause harmful pressure on the tissues of the brain. Greg cannot walk and is confined to a wheelchair; he must also attend physical therapy every day.
When family friends referred Greg to children’s charity, Kids Wish Network, Greg was asked to pick his number one wish. Greg responded that he wanted to go on a cruise to enjoy some quality time with his family, away from every day stresses. That in mind, Wish Coordinator, Jill, and Wish Funding Specialist, Megan, set out to make Greg’s wish come true; with the help of some fantastic sponsors, Jill organized a cruise to the Bahamas for Greg and his family to “escape to,” including a shore excursion to the famous Atlantis resort!
Greg and his family were thrilled to get away from it all, even if only for four days. Those four days, were spectacularly fun-filled and brought plenty of wonderful memories at every turn. Not only were all the amenities and gratuities paid for, but so was the shore excursion to Atlantis!
On the boat, Greg and his family enjoyed swimming in the sun and savoring the fantastic foods laid out for them like they were members of royalty. According to Greg, “the food was the best.” He even got to play video games on board the cruise ship! Everything was perfect! In Atlantis, Greg was greeted with more things to do than he could fathom: there were the beautiful waterscapes to explore, the “archeological ruins” to discover and so much more. Truly, it was the best wish Greg could have ever asked for, and that’s all Kids Wish Network wanted.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Greg’s wish extra special: Christ Presbyterian Church, Burrell Colour Imaging, LLC, Holy Spirit Church S.V.D.P., Gamma Theta Chapter- Tri Kappa, Carnival Cruise Lines and Gator City Taxi.
