Crystal Lake, IL – A trip to Florida to visit family and go to Disney World was the only wish 14 year old Carlos wanted, and thanks to Kids Wish Network, his dream came true!
Diagnosed at birth with down syndrome and congenital heart disease, doctors told his parents, Carlos, Sr. and Margarita, that he wouldn’t make it to the next day. “We have to get his heart checked out every year,” Margarita said. When she was contacted by a Kids Wish Network representative, she saw an opportunity to give her son a chance to be a kid, without worrying about his day to day struggles.
Carlos and his parents headed down to Florida for a week of fun in the sun. Kids Wish Network arranged for them to stay at the Royal Plaza Hotel in the Walt Disney World Resort and enjoy some of Florida’s best theme parks. Kids Wish Network made arrangements for the family to visit Universal Studios and Island of Adventure, as well as Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Epcot Center. “Carlos totally loved all the rides,” Margarita. “He really loved the Toontown car roller coaster and rode it 3 times in a row! Everywhere we went, we got to go to the front of the line. Everyone treated us so great!”
Carlos and his family also went to Wonderworks, a hands on museum. “Carlos loved the earthquake! We had to practically carry him out of there!”
Kids Wish Network also made arrangements for the family to dine at various restaurants, including a farewell dinner at Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater. “The food was really delicious. Carlos ate everything!” After spending four days in the sun, Carlos got the second part of his wish granted and went to spend 3 days with his grandparents in Tampa. “They were really happy to see him,” Margarita said.
Back home in Illinois, Carlos and his mother get to enjoy mementos from their trip, including a photo album that was purchased from Disney. “I really want to look at these pictures with him and reminisce. Everything was great and this is something we will never forget.”
For making Carlos’ wish super special, Kids Wish Network would like to thank: Dollar Rent a Car, Red Rock Grill, Wonderworks, Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater, Compassion Partners, Royal Plaza Hotel, Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club.
