FRANKLIN, WI- Kids Wish Network sends a little girl battling a life-threatening illness to the “magical world of Disney.”
Everything was going well for Mikaela until 2007, when she started having recurring sinus infections and became extremely lethargic. That fall, she began having severe problems with her eye and was found to have a tumor on the right side of her head. After numerous tests and MRIs, Mikeala was diagnosed with Wegener’s granulomatosis, which is a form of vasculitis that affects the lungs, kidneys and other organs. Due to its organ damage, it can be a serious disease that requires immune suppression. For Mikaela, she endures a daily medication regimen that results in strong side effects. She also suffers vision problems and numerous viral illnesses, causing her to miss many days of school.
After being told about Mikaela by her grandmother, a Kids Wish Network representative called Mikaela’s family and told her that they would love to grant her wish. “The day we got the phone call and found out it was happening to her we were so touched to know that something so good can come to someone who tries so much for their family. We were all in tears.” It wasn’t long before Mikaela’s wish was planned and set in motion, complete with tickets to all of the major Orlando theme parks and WonderWorks, dinner at the awesome Pirates Dinner Adventure and a stay at the wonderful Royal Plaza Hotel.
According to Mikaela’s mother, Sarah, Disney World was, truly, “the happiest place on earth.” “We felt like we were in an imaginary land, like a snow globe.”
Mikaela just loved Disney’s Magic Kingdom, especially the night parades and the fireworks; seeing them made her face just light up. Sarah said that Mikaela really enjoyed meeting the princesses. As for souvenirs, Mikaela just loves snow globes and really got into the collectible Disney trading pins.
At WonderWorks, Mikaela and her sister truly loved the earthquake and hurricane experiences; at SeaWorld, she had her hair braided and enjoyed watching the seal show.
Mikaela’s wish was granted and she was so happy at Disney World that she was in tears when it was time to go home. According to her mother, the trip couldn’t have been better and “everyone at Kids Wish Network was great to work with. We loved the opportunity.”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Mikaela’s wish extra special: Royal Plaza Hotel, Compassion Partners, Pirates Dinner Adventure, WonderWorks, Taco Bell, Johnny Rocket’s and Carrabba’s Italian Grill (OSI Restaurant Partners, LLC).
