Corydon, IN – When six-year-old James of Corydon was approved for a wish with Kids Wish Network, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses, he knew just what he wanted to do: this happy-go-lucky little guy wanted to go to Disney World. It would prove to be a trip this brave boy will never forget.
James was born with cerebral palsy. C.P. is a group of brain disorders that are most often characterized by seizures, impaired mobility and spasticity. James suffers from severe seizures and has had 14 brain surgeries in his young life. He is also wheelchair dependent. In addition, James has hydrocephalus, which causes fluid to build up around his brain.
James’ trip to the Sunshine State began with a simple phone call. His grandmother received a call from one of Kids Wish Network’s professional fundraisers and submitted his name in hopes that he would be eligible for a wish with the charity. James’ mother, Diana, was later thrilled when Kids Wish Network wish coordinator, Jill, called to inform her that her son had indeed been approved.
This special boy, who had always wanted to visit Disney World, was soon on his way. Jill took care of all of the details including airfare, hotel accomodations, theme park tickets and more.
Soon after arriving in Orlando, James and his family checked into the beautiful Royal Plaza Hotel. With an itinerary full of things to do however, they would spend little time there.
James took full advantage of his busy schedule. He had a blast visiting the various parks in the area and also enjoyed some other fun activities Jill had planned for him. In addition to passes to Wonderworks, Orlando’s famous ‘upside-down’ museum, Jill also had reservations for the family at the Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater where patrons enjoy a delicious dinner while watching a live, interactive pirate show.
James returned home from his trip tired but with plenty of wonderful memories. It was definitely an experience this courageous boy will never forget.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make James’ wish extra special: Houlihan’s, The Lakeview Restaurant, Pirates Dinner Adventure Theater, the Royal Plaza Hotel, Shoney’s and Wonderworks. Also they would like to thank the following groups for sponsoring James’ wish: American Legion Post #42, BPO Elks Lodge #270, Silver Creek Kiwanis Club and Harrison County Hospital.
