Caleb, age 11, of Boca Raton, is outgoing, witty and has a zest for life. Perhaps this is what makes having Congenital Heart Disease especially difficult. Unlike most other children, Caleb must be home schooled and is limited to mostly playing indoors. But, Caleb makes the best of his condition, and entertains himself playing lots of video games, watching his favorite football team the Dallas Cowboys, and playing with his dogs Samson and Timmy, and his cat named Kitty.
When Wish Coordinator Terri McConn of Kids Wish Network was contacted about Caleb and his only wish for a room brimming with electronics, she “plugged away” at turning his dream into a reality.
It was truly an exciting day for Caleb when all the new equipment arrived at his house. He received a laptop computer, TV, VCR and a Nintendo system with games. “It was great,” Caleb said. “The computer is my favorite part of the wish, because I have some games that wouldn’t work on my old computer.” Because Caleb cannot take part in high-energy activities, playing video games means more to Caleb than to other kids. Playing Nintendo, he can become as active as anyone else, transforming himself into someone who can actually run, jump and race.
Now that Caleb’s wish has come true, he continues to enjoy his new electronic room where he can get away from it all and enjoy just being a kid – and with the help of his new Nintendo system, even become a superhero or two.
Our deepest gratitude goes out to our kind and generous sponsors: Gateway Computers who offered a laptop computer at a discounted rate, Circuit City in West Palm Beach for donating a VCR, Sears from Countryside Mall for donating a TV and Babbages for donating a Nintendo system with games, making Caleb’s wish a dream come true.
