HILLSBOROUGH – Matthew is a sweet 7-year-old who loves Elmo, watching Sesame Street and like typical boys, enjoys being in his backyard and playing with his toy trucks in mounds of dirt. But Matthew’s life is anything but typical. Matthew has a list of ailments including hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy, a seizure disorder and is developmentally delayed. Even from birth Matthew was fighting for his life when only two days after he was born he suffered a severe brain hemorrhage. Since then his young life has been a series of shunt surgeries – he has already undergone 20 operations. Matthew mostly gets transported around in a wheelchair, but also relies on a walker for short distances. He also requires Diastat, a specific medication for his condition to be made accessible to him at all times.
In need of a special dose of happiness, Wish Coordinator Melissa North of Kids Wish Network was contacted about this special boy and his only wish for a handicap accessible play set for his backyard. Melissa quickly “swung” into action to give Matthew the play set of his dreams.
Very soon Matthew will be enjoying his new play set complete with swings, hand rings, a discovery mountain and a steering wheel, enabling him to have fun just being a kid.
