CINCINNATI – Michael, age 11, of Cincinnati, Ohio, has a sweet and loving disposition, making him a complete joy to be around. Michael loves listening to ‘N Sync, playing with his dog, Bruno and watching the X-MEN on TV. However, just like the X-MEN, Michael has his own challenges that threaten his livelihood. Michael has Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy.
In addition to needing a wheelchair, it’s tough being a pre-teen who can’t run and play like the rest of his classmates. In need of a special dose of happiness, Wish Coordinator Kara Stecker of Kids Wish Network was contacted about Michael and his dream of owning his own computer. Kara quickly “computed” how to make this special boy’s wish come true.
It was an exciting day when Michael’s computer arrived at his house. Not only did Michael receive his wish, but as a special surprise, he was also given a printer and Internet access for an entire year.
Michael can now feel as active as any other kid, while playing his favorite games, transforming himself into a computer game character that can run, jump and race. On the Internet, Michael can explore the world around him, visiting places and seeing sights that he otherwise may never have the capability to experience. “Michael loves his new computer,” said Michael’s Mom, Kim. “He’s on it non-stop!”
Now that Michael’s wish has come true, he can get away from it all and enjoy just being a kid – in the playground of his mind.
Kids Wish Network’s deepest gratitude goes out to Gateway for offering the desktop computer at a discounted rate, making Michael’s wish a dream come true.
