ORLANDO, Fla. (June 2016): National children’s charity Kids Wish Network (KWN) once again was an exhibitor at the 2016 Child Life Specialists’ 34th Annual Conference on Professional Issues. The non-profit was there to educate more than 1,000 child life professionals and students from around the world about its Hero of the Month program. The innovative, imaginative, and inspirational program is available to those who work closely with children in hospitals and other child care facilities throughout the country to recognize a child’s bravery and strength upon receiving services in response to often dire situations through the facility.
Hundreds of hospitals and child care facilities participate in Kids Wish Network’s Hero program by nominating children between the ages of 3 and 18 who have bravely faced and overcome some of life’s most challenging obstacles, often enduring a great deal of pain and suffering. Upon review by KWN, each child deemed a Hero by the charity is sent a Hero package complete with a Hero tee shirt, certificate, bear, special gifts and tokens, and a prepaid gift card.
Pediatric facilities nationwide support and recommend the Hero of the Month program for its ability to positively impact the lives of children during their physical recoveries and journeys toward emotional healing. The Hero program is an opportunity for child life professionals to pay tribute to a child’s ability to overcome affliction.
The annual Child Life Specialist Conference is an event designed for pediatric health care professionals to attend workshops and presentations and to explore resources, such as the Hero of the Month program, available to them in support of their efforts to help children cope with the challenges of hospitalization, illness, and disability. At this year’s conference, KWN connected with child life specialists from hospitals affiliated for years with the Hero program and introduced the invaluable resource to potential new member facilities interested in having this valuable program added to its arsenal of resources for helping a child to heal.
“Kids Wish Network understands the tremendous importance of the work that child life specialists perform because we share their passionate commitment to helping children overcome the stress and trauma often accompanied with hospitalization. KWN does this by recognizing, commending, and rewarding the valiant efforts of these children through the Hero of the Month program, giving them a renewed sense of hope and empowering their self-confidence,” said Anna Lanzatella, Executive Director of Kids Wish Network.
